- This NARVAL (North Atlantic Regional VALidation) web tool has been developed within the frame of EuroSea project
- In particular, under the umbrella of task 3.6 (High Frequency -HF- radars) in the Work Package 3: Network Integration and Improvement
- The main aim of this website is to showcase a 6-month (January-June 2023) proof-of-concept demostration of how HF radars can be useful for the skill assessment of operational ocean models
- To this purpose, modelled surface currents are validated (on a monthly basis) against remote-sensed currents provided by 7 HF radar systems deployed around the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary islands
- The regional ocean models here employed are:
- In the Western Mediterranean Sea: WMOP and MED, the latter run within the context of the Copernicus Marine Service
- In the North-Eastern Atlantic Ocean: GLOBAL and IBI, both operationally run within the context of the Copernicus Marine Service
- In the Western Mediterranean Sea: WMOP and MED, the latter run within the context of the Copernicus Marine Service
