• The main goal of this 6-month (January-June 2023) pilot study is to qualitatively identify, from an Eulerian perspective, the strengths and shortcomings of diverse ocean forecast models running operationally in overlapping regions of the NE Atlantic Ocean and the westernmost Mediterranean Sea

  • In order to conduct monthly comparisons of model versus HFR datasets, model outputs were bilinearly interpolated on the finer resolution HF radar grid mesh

  • Additionally, WMOP model surface outputs were temporaly interpolated from 3-hourly to hourly data to ensure the consistency of this comparison exercise

  • Since HFR remote-sensed estimations are commonly affected by inherent uncertainties (inteferences, etc.), only those HFR grid points with GDOP (Geometric Dilution of Precision) values below 3 and temporal coverage above the 50% (for the selected time period) were analysed

  • The approach described by GODAE initiative has been adopted: CLASS-4 (maps) and CLASS-2 (timeseries at selected locations) metrics were computed, encompassing mean absolute differences (MAD), correlacion coefficients and currents roses
